Detroit Urban Landscapes by Lorla's own Robert Beras
"Working daily as a professional digital retouching artist, for a large ad agency in the Detroit area, I lie every day. I make products look perfect. I combine images to essentially fool the public. I apply effects to get an “edgy” look or make a model appear more voluptuous. I’m paid to lie through photography and I love it.
As a photographer, with a focus on Detroit’s urban landscape, I want to tell the truth in a simple, straightforward manner. It’s all about light. When I find the light, I’ve found my shot. When I combine strong composition with the gritty textures and raw colors of my subject matter something beautiful happens; beneath the rubble and decay are glimmers of hope. I rely on the truth when I shoot, using little cropping and minimal reliance on digital trickery. I love that even more."

Wire Designs Jewelry by Jan Vettraino
I use an Old World technique in a modern way to create crochet wire jewelry adorned with new and recycled beads and embellishments from vintage jewelry.
As a child, I was always creating things from my environment, from making a doll house of fruit crates with shoe boxes and leftover wallpaper, to taking copper wire that my dad brought home from work, stripping the insulation from it, and then creating copper flowers. My mom and grandmother taught me to sew and crochet, and in high school I took many art classes, including jewelry making, pottery, sculpture and drawing. In college I majored in Interior Design and included business, fine art, architecture and pottery. With my design background I have been blessed with a variety of projects and experiences.

When I am creating jewelry from vintage necklaces or earrings, I think about the woman that has used this prior to me… that strong, creative, nurturing woman. What events did she wear this piece of jewelry for? When? And who was that special person who gave it to her? I let the wire, beads and embellishments inspire me, giving direction to my designs.
I specialize in custom orders to create a bracelet or pin that incorporates a client’s family jewelry. For example, I took a grandmother’s clip on earrings and created a pin for her and her sister to wear, keeping the memory of their grandmother close to their hearts!
I started creating my jewelry as a fundraiser for my niece who was hiking to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Many of my family members have been touched by Leukemia and Lymphoma and this was a way to give back to fight blood cancers. 10% of the profits from the sale of this jewelry will go to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
